Implementation of revised pay scale demanded

Contract labourers associated with the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board (KUWSDB) and the Mandya City Municipal Council (CMC) staging a protest urging the State government to initiate immediate measures to implement the revised pay scale near Sir M. Visvesvaraya Statue, off the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway in Mandya on Monday.

Contract labourers associated with the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board (KUWSDB) and the Mandya City Municipal Council (CMC) have urged the State government to initiate immediate measures to implement the revised pay scale.

The Labour Department has increased the salary of civic workers associated with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and other urban local bodies (ULB) in the State on August 4, 2016. Likewise, the salaries of contract labourers associated with the water board has also been hiked. However, the government has not taken any steps to ensure that the revised pay scales are implemented, they said.

On Tuesday, a group of pourakarmikas staged a demonstration near Sir M. Visvesvaraya Statue, off the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway, and raised slogans against the government.

The agitators also urged the ULBs across the State to allocate sufficient funds in their annual budgets for the welfare of pourakarmikas.

According to them, no ULBs in the district have convened meetings to discuss the plight of civic workers so far.

Other demands

The agitators have also demanded breakfast, health and other social service benefits from the government and ULBs. They threatened to intensify the protests if their demands were not met immediately.
