Taking serious exception to the episode of the headmistress of a private school in Hubballi cutting a lock of hair of a sixth standard student to enforce discipline, Law Minister T.B. Jayachandra on Friday told the Legislative Assembly that disciplinary action would be initiated against the headmistress after verifying facts.

Responding to the issue raised by Leader of the Opposition Jagadish Shettar during the Zero Hour, the Minister said: “Those indulging in such public insulting of children should know that the government will cut their hair in turn to send a strong message”.

He said the Commissioner for Public Instructions would be asked to look into the matter immediately.

Earlier, Mr. Shettar expressed concern over the headmistress of St. Paul’s school in Hubballi cutting a lock of hair of the student as part of disciplinary measures for sporting long hair.

He described it as an “inhuman” act and urged the government to take strong action so that such incidents would not recur.
