The former Minister H. Halappa, who has been accused of rape, filed a petition for anticipatory bail in the court of the District and Sessions Judge here on Wednesday.

The petitioner's lawyer, Ashok Bhat, submitted the bail application.

The bail petition said “the petitioner Halappa is innocent and he has not committed any offence as alleged in the complaint”.

The registration of the case against the petitioner by the Vinobanagar police station is at the instance of politically vindictive persons who, in order to tarnish the image of the petitioner, has cooked up a false case, the petition said.

The alleged incident was said to have happened on November 26, 2009, and a case was lodged on May 3 this year before the DG and IGP in Bangalore. There was a delay of 131 days in lodging the complaint, the petition said.

The petition, which was accepted, was posted to May 11 for hearing.

The CID squad, meanwhile, continued the investigation for the second day here on Wednesday.

They interrogated the complainant and her husband jointly and individually at their house in Damodar Colony in Vinoba Nagar.
