The Karnataka Adivasi Rakshana Parishad, a tribal welfare organisation, has urged the State government to immediately issue caste certificates to tribals so that they could avail the benefits of government schemes besides providing education to their children.
A meeting of the parishad was held here on Sunday to discuss about the proposed State-level meet of adivasi communities (tribal/indigenous people) to be held in Bidar on August 9.
Members of Soligas, Hakkipikki, Irulaiga, Medha, Haran Shikari, Dungri Garasia, Kudiya, Kaniyan, Jenu Kuruba, Gondu, Yerava and other adivasi communities attended the meeting.

The Bidar meet will be held in connection with the 22nd World Adivasi Day, M. Krishnaiah, president of the parishad, said.
Addressing the gathering, he urged the Union and State governments to uplift adivasis by chalking out constructive programmes for their welfare.
The meeting also urged the State government to establish an university at Kodagu or Chamarajanagar to study adivasis.

Their other key demands include the establishment of a separate board/commission for the welfare of adivasis in Karnataka, issuance of caste certificates, employment and housing schemes for adivasis.
At least 30,000 members from almost all the adivasi communities from across the State are expected to take part in the Bidar meet, Mr. Krishnaiah told The Hindu.
Anandi Saran, environmental consultant for the United Nations Organisation (UNO), was the main attraction at the meeting.
Ms. Anandi Saran, hailing from Switzerland, interacted with the adivasis and urged them to protect their rich heritage and tradition.
While speaking to The Hindu, Ms. Anandi Saran stressed on the need for protecting the constitutional rights given to adivasi communities.
