Exhibition of plant species begins

‘Aranya Sasyakashi’, a nine-day exhibition providing information about forest plant species began at the Municipal College premises in Gadag on Saturday. Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj H. K. Patil inaugurated it.

This programme had been organised by the Department of Forests in association with others and it is aimed at providing the public information about the forest plant species that helps improve quality of human life, especially to mitigate the impact of the global warming in arid areas like Gadag.

Over 80 plant species have been displayed and arrangements have been made to provide information about the usefulness of these species. This exhibition is a part of a scheme to combat the drought and hear during the summer by enhancing the green coverage.

Experts are also sensitising the visitors about the schemes of the forest and horticulture departments to grow trees suiting the weather conditions of Gadag.

Planting would be done on a minimum of 10,000 hectares of lands. This year nearly 12 lakh saplings would be planted, he said appealed people from all sections to take part.
