District hospitals to get CT, MRI scanners

The State Cabinet on Tuesday approved a ₹103-crore proposal to purchase modern diagnostic equipment, including CT and MRI scanners, at district hospitals.

This is part of the government programme to provide best diagnostic services for poor patients free of cost, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T.B. Jayachandra told presspersons after the Cabinet meeting.

The Cabinet has decided to gift free shoes and socks to 10,000 SC, ST students pursuing vocational courses in government, aided and private Industrial Training Institutes. This will be distributed during the 2016-17 academic year, and is estimated to cost ₹10.22 crore. He said SC, ST students would also be given free tool kits. It is estimated to cost ₹47.84 crore. It has cleared a proposal for purchase of 133 mini-buses under the National Urban Renewal Mission for city transport services in urban areas.

Mr. Jayachandra said a joint legislature session would be held from February 6 to 10 and Governor Vajubhai R. Vala would address it. General issues would be discussed, he said.
