DSS protests against atrocities on Dalits

July 30, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:01 am IST - MYSURU:

Activists of the Dalit Sangharsh Samithi (DSS) staged a demonstration here recently protesting the atrocities on Dalits at Una in Gujarat and the intemperate remarks of expelled BJP leader Dayshankar Singh against the BSP supremo Mayavathi.

The DSS activists gathered in front of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue opposite the Town Hall and staged a sit-in strike and raised slogans against the Centre.

DSS leaders, including Chooranahalli Shivanna and others, alleged that there was a rise in arocities against Dalits and minorities across the country every since the BJP assumed power.

“Though such incidents are taking place with unceasing regularity in Gujarat and other States, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is maintaining a muted silence which amounts to acquiescing with the crimes being perpetuated by the right wing outfits,” Mr. Shivanna said.

Citing more examples of atrocities on Dalits from across the country, the DSS said there was an environment of anarchy.

The DSS cautioned that if such atrocities go unchecked then the situation will take a grave turn and Mr. Modi alone would be held responsible for it. The activists also sought the immediate arrest of Dayashankar Singh.
