Centre and State should work as a team: PM Modi

September 24, 2014 01:44 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 05:47 pm IST - Bangalore:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday stressed the need for the Centre and the State to work as a team for the progress of the country instead of being at loggerheads.

Inaugurating the Food Park near Tumkur, the Prime Minister said the country can progress only if the States progress. “The country will become stronger only if the States become stronger,” he said.

He said there were instances earlier where the centre and states were at loggerheads due to political reasons. Some of the States even felt that there was a feeling of enmity. “But the country cannot go on like this and there has to be a cordial relationship between the Centre and the States,” he said.

He said the Chief Ministers and the Prime Minister may belong to different parties but that should not come in the way of working together as a team as after all they are part of one country.

The Centre should understand the feelings of the State and the State should play a major role in implementing central projects. He also declared that he would take all the Chief Ministers into confidence and abide by the principles of the federal structure in letter and spirit.
