Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will lay the foundation stone for the third phase of Under Ground Drainage (UGD) works in Kalaburagi city on April 23, the Minister for Municipal Administration and Minority Affairs, Qamarul Islam, has said.

He told presspersons here on Monday that the State government has allocated Rs.140.30 crore for the third phase of UGD system which includes 159.83 km of UGD pipeline and installing a 25 MLD Sewage Treatment Plan (STP) at Kapnoor on the outskirts of the city. With this, more than 55 per cent of the households in the city would be linked with UGD pipelines.

Mr. Islam added that 40 per cent of the third stage UGD works had been completed with funds of Rs.25 crore sanctioned through Kalaburagi City Corporation. While Rs.40.65 crore would be provided by the State government, the Hyderabad Karnataka Region Development Board would provide Rs.30 crore, the local bodies contribution would be Rs.21.20 crore and another Rs.49.45 crore would be provided through loans from financial institutions.

Mr. Islam, expressing his displeasure over the delay in UGD works, said despite the government spending Rs.36 crore in the last 42 years, not even 10 per cent of the households in the city were networked with the UGD system.
