January 30, 2017 12:03 am | Updated 12:03 am IST - Bengaluru:

The Criminal Investigation Department has arrested a Bengaluru-based real estate agent in connection with the 2016 II PU question paper leakage case. The arrest of 58-year-old Narayana S. — who was on the run for the last nine months — brings the total number of arrests in the case to 19.

CID officials have booked Narayana under the Karnataka Control of Organised Crime Act (KCOCA) after his name cropped up during the course of their investigation. According to investigators, Narayana allegedly held two meetings with the alleged kingpin Kumaraswamy, Shivakumaraiah and the other accused at his house and bought the chemistry question paper for his daughter for ₹13 lakh.

However, after Shivakumaraiah’s arrest, Narayana went underground, said an official. On Saturday, the CID got a tip-off that Narayana would be arriving at the special KCOCA court to seek anticipatory bail.

According to the police, Narayana allegedly sent his daughter to the house of the former BBMP councillor Gangabhairaiah where teachers tutored her and 10 other students. The councillor is one of the accused in the case.

CID officials have taken Narayana in custody for six days.
