Expanding its academic presence in other parts of the State, the University of Horticulture Sciences-Bagalkot will be opening a B.Tech course in Horticulture and Food Technology College in Devihusur village of Haveri district.
Informing this at a press conference at the university on Friday, Vice-Chancellor D. L. Maheshwar said that the university would also open several other short-term courses in the field of Horticulture.
Mentioning the courses, he said that two-year diploma course in winery, wine technology and diploma in post-harvesting technology would also be started in the university. Dr. Maheshwar informed that so far, 1,454 students have passed in B.Sc, 341 in M.Sc, 1 in Ph.d and 36 students have completed two year diploma in Horticulture.

“In the short span of its establishment, the university has excelled in imparting quality education and carved a niche in the field of higher education in the country,” he said.
Dr. Maheshwar claimed that about 180 graduates of the university had cleared the Karnataka Public Service Commission exams and got posted at various posts in the State.
“Several students have joined research in national and international level and doing a commendable job,” he said.

He said that in the exam conducted by Indian Council Horticulture Research for giving scholarship, the PG students of the University have done well.
“Besides in academic activities, the students have proved their mettle in the extra-curricular activities also by winning medal in various events,” he said.
He said that this year, the university was admitting 600 in B.Sc, 137 in M.Sc and 43 students for doctorate.
