Activists demand legal protection for cattle transporters

July 29, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 06:08 am IST - Mandya:

Mandya City Municipal Council (CMC) president H.C. Bore Gowda and members of some associations on Thursday emphasised the need for enacting a law for the protection of cattle transporters to prevent them from being ill-treated by animal rights’ activists and Hindu right-wing groups.

Under the banner of Karnataka State Cattle Transporters’ and Sellers’ Association, they took out a rally from Silver Jubilee Park to the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

Cattle suppliers have been facing attacks, humiliation, threats and police cases, they said.

Mr. Gowda and the others urged the State government to initiate measures to issue licenses to sell beef in stalls. Legal protection to buy cattle for beef is the need of the hour, they said.

They also demanded a Criminal Investigation Department inquiry into the alleged irregularities at Pinjrapole Animal Rescue Centre in Mysuru.
