January 17, 2017 11:45 pm | Updated 11:45 pm IST - Tumakuru:

The process of issuing dismissal order to assistant sub-inspector of police Umesh S., who allegedly raped a mentally challenged woman in Tumakuru city, is on. Superintendent of Police Isha Pant told The Hindu that the dismissal order will be issued in 2 to 3 days to the accused. As it is a serious crime, stringent action will be taken against him and he will be dismissed from service, she said.

The victim was allegedly raped in a moving private vehicle allegedly by the ASI in Tumakuru city on January 14. The 32-year-old woman had left her house around 7 p.m. after a trivial row with her mother. She had walked around 6km and visited two temples, but could not find her way back home.

The ASI, who spotted her, told her to get into the four-wheeler after promising to drop her home, and raped her. The driver of the private vehicle, Eshwar, and the ASI have been remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
