882 candidates remain in fray in Kolar district

In all, 882 candidates are in the fray for the 162 seats of the 166 in six urban local bodies in Kolar district after withdrawal of nomination papers ended on Wednesday. Councillors were elected unopposed in four wards in Mulbagal town.

As many as 260 candidates, among the 1,142 with valid contestants, withdrew their nomination papers.

In the Kolar City Municipal Council, 197 contestants will contest for 35 seats; in Robertsonpet CMC 287 for 35 seats; Bangarpet Town Municipal Council 103; Malur TMC 112; Mulbagal TMC 95 and in Srinivasapur TMC, there are 88 candidates in the contest.

Elected unopposed

In the Mulbagal Town Municipal Council, four members were elected unopposed as the other candidates withdrew their nomination papers. They are Sathish Kumar of the Congress (Ward No 1), Independent candidates Jaganmohan Reddy (Ward No 4) and T. Shankarappa (Ward No 21) and S.R. Murali of the Janata Dal (Secular) (Ward No 22).
