69 cases of ticketless travel booked

More than 200 passengers were booked for ticketless travelling and other offences during a special drive conducted by the Mysuru division of South Western Railways here on Saturday.

The railway authorities booked 213 cases (69 against ticketless travel) and collected a penalty of Rs. 35,200. The fines ranged from Rs. 100 to Rs. 300. A total of 23 persons who could not pay the fine were sentenced by a court with imprisonment ranging from one to 21 days.

The early morning drive was conducted on board the Chamarajanagar-Bengaluru Passenger Train at Kadakola station. The authorities also penalised passengers for footboard travel, occupying compartments reserved for women and persosn with disabilities, among others.

G. Yashod Kumar, Divisional Commercial Manager, South Western Railway, Mysuru, and M. Ramakrishnappa, Assistant Security Commissioner, Railway Protection Force, SW Railway, Mysuru supervised the raid. A total of 35 ticket-checking staff and 65 Railway Protection Force personnel took part in the operations.
