6,000-km-long road across three districts to be repaired soon

Roads severely damaged owing to heavy rain this year

The State government has released Rs. 55.47 crore to the Shivamogga Circle of Public Works Department (PWD) for the maintenance of 6,000-km road across Shivamogga, Chitradurga and Davangere districts that had been damaged owing to heavy rain this year.

In all, 8,061-km road in these districts, including 2,331 km State Highway (SH) and 5,730 km of major district roads (MDR), come under the jurisdiction of PWD. The heavy rain witnessed in these three districts this year has caused heavy damage to the roads. According to a survey conducted by PWD, more than 6,000-km-long road in these districts are not in a good condition. It has been planned to use Rs. 21.32 crore for maintenance of roads in Shivamogga district, Rs. 17.83 crore in Chitradurga district and Rs. 16.32 crore in Davangere district.

A detailed plan has been draw up for maintenance of roads, including the works like filling potholes, vegetation removal, cleaning bridges and cross drainage, repair of parapet walls, painting, installation of sign boards and road safety works.

The work of filling potholes on SH would be completed before December 6 and that of MDRs by December 31.

A sum of Rs. 1 crore has been reserved for installing kilometre stones along these roads. In addition, it has been planned to remove 515 unscientifically laid speed breakers in the three districts
