571 additional teachers redeployed in Mysuru

Reshuffle done to ensure that every school has a teacher

With the redeployment of 571 additional primary school teachers in the district to schools with no or few teachers, the demand for teachers has come down considerably.

The reshuffle, undertaken by Education Department, was completed this Wednesday.

The Hindu that the department had redeployed teachers to ensure that there would be one teacher for every 30 students. He said that teachers were in excess in many schools in Mysuru north, and in Mysuru and K.R. Nagar taluks in general, while many schools in H.D. Kote taluk, Hunsur and other places had just one teacher for 100 students or so.

After doing extensive work, the department found that 639 teachers were in excess in various schools in the district. It held a counselling for teachers over the last fortnight and they were then transferred. Teachers who had had a long service in schools with excess teachers were transferred, Mr. Patil said.

There are 1,912 government primary schools in the district (all coming under the Education Department) and 6,955 teachers are working in these schools. But 37 schools did not have a teacher hitherto, while 93 did not meet the required student to teacher ratio, Mr. Patil said.

He clarified that the department always used to send teachers on deputation to zero-teacher schools. But now, there won’t be a zero-teacher school in the district, he said.

Meanwhile, 68 additional teachers are yet to be redeployed. The Education Department is planning to have some teachers in reserve for a mobile team and for inclusive education services.

Mr. Patil said now the department would work out how many guest teachers were required in the district and appoint them accordingly.
