Over 40,000 children in the city below the age of five years are yet to be given polio drops as a part of the Pulse Polio programme round one at the end of the second day of the house to house visits on Tuesday.
The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which took up this campaign in 135 of the 198 wards in Bangalore, has achieved 96.24 per cent coverage as on Tuesday night. As many as 50,438 children were given polio drops during the house to house visits undertaken by the civic body’s health workers on Monday and Tuesday. The BBMP had administered polio drops on 5, 57,232 children during the booth campaign which was conducted on Sunday. Speaking to The Hindu , Devaki Umesh, Chief Health Officer, BBMP, said, “We have to track down the remaining children during our house to house visits on Wednesday. We are focussed on achieving cent per cent coverage in BBMP limits.”
Meanwhile, B.V. Karur, Project Director, Reproductive and Child Health, Department of Health and Family Welfare said that around 68 lakh children accounting for 92 per cent of the children in the State were given polio drops at the end of the first day of the house to house visits that was conducted on Monday.
