36,173 suspended cards revoked in Mysore district

The Commissioner of the Food and Civil Supplies Department on Monday revoked over 36,173 Antyodaya, BPL and APL cards in Mysore district after the cardholders furnished details of Electoral Photo Identity Cards.

A total of 97,336 cards were suspended between April 2014 and October 20, 2014. Similarly, over six lakh cards which were suspended across the State were revoked.

Bogus cards

In order to eliminate bogus cards, the Food and Civil Supplies Department had instructed all cardholders to furnish details of EPIC and Aadhaar cards by sending SMS.

Of the 7,33,888 total cardholders in Mysore district, 6,36,552 cardholders had submitted the details of EPIC cards. As the remaining 97,336 card holders had not furnished the details of their EPIC cards even after a year, their cards had been suspended.

As many as 760 Antyodaya cards, 24,271 BPL cards and 11,142 APL cards were included in the revoked cards. Facilities such as food grains and kerosene would be given to the cardholders from November, according to Mr. Rameshwarappa, Senior Deputy Director of the department. Mr. Rameshwarappa told

The Hindu here on Tuesday that if the remaining persons whose cards have been suspended furnish the requisite details, their cards would also be revoked. He said that seeking details of EPIC cards from cardholders was an exercise to eliminate bogus cards and not to harass people.

While furnishing details of EPIC cards was mandatory, providing details of Aadhaar card was optional. The DD further said that people could submit details of EPIC cards in the 235 gram panchayat offices in the district, Atalji Janasnehi Kendras, designated private photo service centres or the six Mysore One centres.
