Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the 2018 polls to the Legislative Assembly will be the last election he will contest in his lifetime.

Mr. Siddaramaiah had declared that he would be shifting from Varuna to Chamundeshwari constituency in the next Assembly polls.

Addressing a party workers’ convention at Hootagalli in Chamundeshwari Assembly constituency on Tuesday, the Chief Minister said he had reserved the last elections of his life to the constituency which gave him a “political rebirth”.

Mr. Siddaramaiah, who claimed that he did not shed tears even when his parents died, had wept when he had to shift to the neighbouring Varuna constituency after the delimitation of constituencies. He had successfully contested the 2008 and 2013 Assembly elections from Varuna. But, he vowed to bring the Congress back to power in the State after the 2018 Assembly elections by contesting from Chamundeshwari constituency.

He said he can never forget the voters of Chamundeshwari constituency, who stood by him during the byelections in 2006 when the then Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and then Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa were determined to “politically finish” him.

While he lashed out at the BJP and its leader B.S. Yeddyurappa for their alleged corruption, he termed the JD(S) as “opportunists”. He said JD(S) was hoping for a hung Assembly to enter into an alliance with some party. But, their desire will not fructify as the Congress will come to power with full majority, Mr. Siddaramaiah asserted.
