2011 scam: Cabinet recommends suspension of 5 KPSC members

The State Cabinet on Thursday recommended suspension of five Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) members allegedly involved in the 2011 scam in the selection of candidates for the gazetted probationer posts.

They are S. Rangamurthy, N. Mahadev, H.V. Parshwanath, Dayashankar, and H.D. Patil. The government would send a recommendation in this regard to the President, through Governor Vajubhai R. Vala. Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T.B. Jayachandra, who briefed presspersons on the Cabinet decisions, said B.S. Krishnaprasad, N. Ramakrishna, and Kanhiram, who were members of the KPSC then, had retired. A few days ago, the Cabinet sought prosecution of both serving and retired members.

A member of this batch — Mangala Sridhar — has been suspended and is facing prosecution for alleged involvement in the recruitment scam.

Bicycles

The Minister said the Cabinet approved purchase and distribution of 5.52 lakh bicycles for class 8 boys and girls. The cost of each boy’s cycle is Rs. 3,580 (blue colour) and girl’s is Rs. 3,650 (maroon colour). The total cost of bicycles is Rs. 199.3 crore.

Fee reimbursement

The Cabinet also decided to reimburse the fee of the National Law School India University, Bengaluru, student Preethi L.M., who belongs to a Scheduled Caste.

So far, the government used to reimburse the fee of students belonging to Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes who had joined engineering and medical courses.
