Two police officers sustained bullet injuries and an alleged criminal was killed in a shoot out that followed after the wanted person attempted to evade arrest by opening fire at police here on Wednesday afternoon, the police said.

The injured policers were PSI Mallikarjun Bande of Station Bazar police station and PSI Murali. Both these officers led a team in a raid to nab the alleged criminal Munna Darbadar. Sources said Munna managed to flee the house on seeing the policemen approaching the house.

A hot pursuit in the narrow lanes continued with the police teams chasing him. Munna, it was said, ran into a house in which three women and an old person were there. The police teams managed to get the four inhabitants out and the two police officers wearing bullet proof vests forced their way into the house in the hope of tackling Munna.
