2 die in iron ore company accident in Karnataka

Two persons were crushed to death and six others suffered injuries when a metal drum fell on them at Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd premises at Kudremukh in Mudigere taluk on Sunday. One person is yet to be accounted for.

The deceased have been identified as Kundan (35) and Sunil (36), both natives of Uttar Pradesh. They were engaged in dismantling work at the premises of KIOCL, now defunct, when the incident happened. The police said that one more person, working below the tank, is still missing.

Prakash, Police Sub Inspector of Kudremukh police station, told The Hindu that the drum fell on the workers from the third floor. "The workers in the ground floor did not anticipate that the drum would fall following the dismantling work in the ground floor. "Six people have suffered injuries in the incident. The workers have told us that Shankar (40), also working in the same place, is still missing. We are clearing the debris", he said.
