16,111 students to appear for PU examination in Mandya

A total of 16,111 students - 7,358 boys and 8,753 girls - will appear for the annual pre-university (PU) examination, which will commence on March 12 and conclude on March 27, in the district.

The department has established 25 centres across the district and all arrangements have been put in place for conducting the examinations, B.M. Srikantaiah, Deputy Director of Pre-University Education, told presspersons here on Tuesday.

Among the candidates, 13,141 are regular students, 625 private students and 2,345 are repeaters. While 6,701 are from the Arts stream, 4,984 are Commerce students. Similarly, 4,426 students from Science stream are appearing for the examination, the officer said.

Hyper-sensitive

Mandavya PU College in Mandya, H.K. Veerana Gowda PU College in Maddur, and Government Girls PU College and S.M. Lingappa PU College in K.R. Pet have been declared as ‘hyper-sensitive’ centres, Mr. Srikantaiah said.

The district stood 23rd in second PU results during 2013-14. The department had initiated measures to improve the results this year and would install tablet computers in sensitive centres to check examination malpractices, he added.
