15 new GPs: officials told to make preparations

Savita Kotian, president of the zilla panchayat has directed the executive officers of the three taluk panchayats to start preparations for the 15 new gram panchayats proposed to be come up in Udupi district.

She was chairing the monthly Karnataka Development Programme (KDP) meeting here.

The 15 new gram panchayats include one in Udupi taluk, nine in Kundapur taluk and five in Karkala taluk.

The officials should finish the preparatory work with regard to these new gram panchayats as soon as possible, she said.

She directed the concerned officials to write to the Department of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj on relaxing the rules for providing licences to people in villages for constructing houses.

The Panchayat Development Officers should be ready with contingency plans to deal with drinking water scarcity, Ms. Kotian said.

H1N1 details

Giving details of H1N1 influenza disease in the district, District Health and Family Welfare Officer Surendra Chimbalkar said that 29 cases of the disease were reported in the district since January.

Of these, 24 had recovered and had been discharged.

Five persons are still receiving treatment and one person was in the Intensive Care Unit, he said.

Ms. Kotian directed the concerned officials to construct ramps at the entrance of their offices so that it was easier for the physically challenged persons to enter them.
