District Surveillance Officer Shivasharanappa Bhusnur has said that 14 confirmed cases of dengue fever have been reported in Kalaburagi district since January this year, with 12 confirmed cases in May.
Speaking to The Hindu here on Wednesday, Dr. Bhusnur said that 140 blood samples were collected across the district. Of the 14 confirmed cases, eight cases were from Kalaburagi city. He said that all the 14 patients were responding to treatment.
Efforts are being made through joint operations by the Kalaburagi Mahanagara Palike and the District Health and Family Welfare Department to avert a possible outbreak in the district. Dr. Bhusnur said that officials in taluks have been instructed to map vulnerable areas and execute control measures such as source reduction process in water-logged areas, cleaning drainages and removal of garbage.

Meanwhile, the authorities of the palike have taken up fogging regularly in the city.
Environmental Engineer at the palike Muzzamil Alam said that fogging and spraying activities were being taken up as part of the anti-dengue programme through four vehicle-mounted fogging machines across the city. Fogging activities were carried out in each ward covering all localities on a regular basis. Last year, 1,090 blood samples were collected in the district of which 149 were confirmed cases.
