The Government is all set to bring over 1,200 veteran artistes, singers and others, who are dependant on various forms of art for their livelihood, under its monthly pension scheme in compliance with the recommendation of the Department of Kannada and Culture within a month, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has announced.
He was speaking after presenting the Karnataka Rajyotsava award in 25 categories for 2009 and 2010 to 178 persons and four organisations here on Monday.
Listing the government's achievements in the past 30 months, Mr. Yeddyurappa said the scenario of the State on the development front would be changed in the next 30 months.

The government was planning to construct two auditoriums that could accommodate 3,000 people and bigger than the existing Ravindra Kalakshetra within the limits of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike. It would take a decision shortly, he added.
On the long-pending Vishwa Kannada Sammelan, Mr. Yeddyurappa said works for holding the sammelan were in progress and the government would hold the sammelan in February 2011.
Referring to the facilities to be extended for the development of Kannada by the Centre as the language has been accorded classical status, the Chief Minister said the government would approach the Centre demanding the benefits due to it.

More talents recognised
Minister for Kannada and Culture Govind Karjol, who presided over the marathon event, said the government had decided to limit the total number of awards to 162 on Saturday. But it was forced to increase the number to 182 as it had recognised talents in more areas.
Secretary, Kannada and Culture, B.R. Jayaramaraje Urs welcomed the gathering. S. Ramanuja, Shadaksahri and Durga Das, spoke on behalf of the award winners.
