100 new ITIs to start functioning in Karnataka next month

As many as 100 new Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) will start functioning next month, according to P.T. Parameshwar Naik, Minister of State for Labour.

Speaking to presspersons here on Saturday, Mr. Naik said that steps had been taken to identify suitable buildings to be rented and depute teachers to train students. The ITIs will be set up at various places, including Kampli, Hagari Bommanahalli, Hampasagar, Gudekote and Holalu in Bellary district.

He said a decision had been taken to construct four residential schools in Bangalore, one each in other districts as well as a Kalyan Bhavan and residential complexes in urban areas. The proposals would be forwarded to the Cabinet for approval.

Work on building the Sir M. Vishweshwariah Construction Academy, near Doddaballapur, at an estimated cost of Rs. 250 crore had commenced, he said.

Mr. Naik said the government had entered into an agreement with Tata group to impart training to tribal youths. It proposed to set up the centres in six places, including Bellary, Mangalore, Shimoga and Koppa. These centres were likely to start functioning from next month. He said a multi-skill development centre was being established in Bangalore and Gulbarga with German assistance. The government had prepared a plan to establish such centres in Bellary, Mysore, Hubli, Belgaum, Mangalore and other places as well.
