CBI registers case in Munde's death

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday registered a case in connection with the death of former Union Minister >Gopinath Munde in a road accident in Delhi on June 3.

“The probe team has inspected the scene of crime. We will also collect the post-mortem report and forensic analysis conducted under the Delhi Police for examination,” said a CBI official.

The Central Government had on Monday issued an order, allowing the

>CBI to take over the investigations into Munde’s death.

Munde was on his way to Delhi airport to board a flight to Maharashtra when his car collided with a Tata Indica at the Prithviraj Road-Tughlak road roundabout. He was rushed to AIIMS’ JPNA Trauma Centre where he was soon declared dead after doctors failed to resuscitate him.

The Indica driver, Gurvinder Singh, was arrested for allegedly causing death due to rash and negligent driving.

The post-mortem report revealed that Munde died of cardiac arrest. His liver was ruptured and he also suffered two fractures in the spine.

Demands for a CBI probe into Munde’s death by his supporters and several political leaders from Maharashtra led the Central Government to finally get the case transferred to the premier agency for investigations into all possibilities.
