NCC cadets under Guntur Group Headquarters are going to be part of a nationwide effort by the largest uniformed youth organisation to create a new Guinness world record for the largest participation by a single organisation in observing the International Day of Yoga on June 21.
Heeding the call of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to embrace Yoga as a way of life, the NCC is making a spirited bid to create a new world record after roping in 13 lakh cadets across the country to simultaneously take part in the event which would start at 7 a.m.
In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana directorates of NCC led by Air Commodore S.R. Gharpure, Deputy Director General, NCC, 95,000 cadets are taking part. Group Commander, NCC Group Headquarters, Colonel B. Hari Krishna Naidu, said that 13,500 cadets drawn from various battalions would be taking part in the event at 22 venues spread across Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore districts.

In Guntur, the event was being held on the premises of Police Parade Grounds where 2,278 cadets of 10 (Andhra) Girls Battalion headed by Lt. Col T.R Das would take part. The events are being held simultaneously at Tenali (1,074 cadets), Bapatla (2,885 cadets), Chilakaluripet (850), Chirala (1,400), Nellore (1,491) and Chittor (200 cadets). “Our cadets have been trained over the last few weeks and are committed in putting up a performance which will be part of a nationwide effort to participate in International Day of Yoga,” said Colonel Naidu.
