YSR Congress president and Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and party’s honorary chief Y.S. Vijayamma tendered resignation to the Lok Sabha and Assembly membership protesting what they called the manner in which the Congress party sought to divide the State.
Their resignation is in tune with the decision taken by 16 party MLAs last month and the resignation submitted by Nellore MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar last week in New Delhi. Ms. Vijayamma represents Pulivendula Assembly constituency in Kadapa district.
Mr. Rajamohan Reddy told reporters that both the leaders faxed their resignation letters in the prescribed format to the presiding officers of Lok Sabha and the Assembly. “Jagan faxed his resignation letter to Lok Sabha Speaker from the Chanchalguda jail through the authorities. The copy of the letter will be sent by post to the Parliament,” Mr. Rajamohan Reddy said. He said the two had resigned against the Congress party’s discrimination of the Telugu-speaking people. The Centre has taken a unilateral decision and its actions are aimed at garnering votes and seats. Political Affairs Committee member M.V. Mysoora Reddy said Congress has decided to divide the State without showing any valid reason. Later, Jagan and Ms. Vijayamma released a seven-page open letter citing reasons for quitting.

The letter said: “As you have complete rights on the State as per Article 3 of the Constitution, it is not fair on your part to play with the future of the people of this State. If division is inevitable, what we ask is, it should be done in a manner which is agreeable to all stakeholders and no injustice meted out to anyone, and if you are unable to do justice, then you should leave the State, untouched. Ignoring such ramifications, without looking into reality, your unilateral posturing has put our State in disarray and with the hope that our resignations would change your thinking process, we submit ours,” they said.
