CPI (M) plans national conference in Vizag

Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) will organise its 21 national conference in Visakhapatnam from April 14 to 19 next year.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, CPI (M) Polit Bureau member B.V. Raghavulu said that the conference was being organised in Visakhapatnam, following the request from the party’s district committee and huge presence of working class there. The conference would review its decisions on political developments in the country, he said.

The Left parties have been forging alliances with other political parties for the last three decades. The conference would deliberate on consequences and losses arisen out of the alliances, he said. The CPI (M) leader said that an important feature of the conference would be open discussion. The party would discuss whether its decisions and strategies have paid off or not.

“A lot of political changes had taken place during the last 20 years in the country. The party needed to study and analyse these developments. The bourgeoisie parties that were playing the opposition role had no spirit to fight against the government,” he said.

Stating that Hindu and minority religious fanaticism had been on the rise since 1990, he said secularism had taken a backseat in the country. The conference would discuss such issues and chalk out plans to counter the religious fanaticism in the country, he said.

Answering a query, Mr. Raghavulu said that the CPI (M) had no plans on unification of the Left parties.
