Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor had his “Lagaan moment” on Sunday when his ministry beat British High Commission team in a cricket match.

Recalling Aamir Khan’s hit movie ‘Lagaan’ in which a barefooted team of native greenhorns had taken on and defeat an elite British team, Mr. Tharoor described the win on his twitter page against the Commission as his “Lagaan moment”.

“We won! Four wicket victory with 6 overs to spare. Seventh—wkt (wicket) pair of Garg (31 not out) and Bisht (19 not out) carried us home. My Lagaan moment,” the minister said on the social networking site.

Mr. Tharoor, who took two wickets in the match, also kept giving updates on his twitter page.

“I took 2 for 32 in my 5 overs, had 2 catches dropped off me, thoroughly enjoyed myself. First competitive match since Geneva 1989. MEA good team.

“Breaking news frm MEA vs British HighComm (Commission) annual cricket match. Innings break: BHC 133/9 in their 25 ovrs. Pretty good score on this wicket,” his twitter update read.
