Police custody for Chhatradhar Mahato

Chhatradhar Mahato, convener of the People’s Committee Against Police Atrocities, was on Sunday remanded to police custody for four days in connection with a CPI(M) leader’s murder case in West Midnapore district.

The PCPA leader was produced before the court of Assistant Chief Judicial Magistrate, Jhargram, Mohammed Rezzak who sent him to police custody till October 21.

Prabir Mahato, a CPI(M) worker, was abducted from Dharampur in Lalgarh and murdered on June 14.

Posing as journalists police had arrested Mahato on September 26 near Lalgarh. He has been booked under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and several sections under the IPC.
