Maharashtra recommends Bharat Ratna for Sachin

The Maharashtra legislature on Tuesday recommended Sachin Tendulkar for the Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian honour in the country. Moving a resolution in the Assembly, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan congratulated the Indian cricket team and said Tendulkar should be given the Bharat Ratna for his contribution to sports. The resolution was passed unanimously.

The State government will honour Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan with a cash prize of Rs. 1 crore each and two members of the team's support staff, Mayank Parekh and Ramesh Mane, with Rs. 50. lakh each.

There has been a tussle over granting the Extra Floor Space Index (FSI) requested by Tendulkar for building his personal gymnasium and legislators on Tuesday called on the government to grant his request.
