The CBI has alleged that 770 high-capacity BSNL lines were used at Mr. Maran’s three residences in Chennai and Delhi.

The former Union Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran was again questioned by the CBI on Friday in the “illegal” telephone exchange case. “Mr. Maran was quizzed for about six hours. He has now been asked to produce some documents related to the case,” said a CBI official, adding that he would be summoned again for questioning if required. The agency has alleged that 770 high-capacity BSNL lines were used at Mr. Maran’s three residences in Chennai and Delhi.

The CBI had in 2011 initiated investigations into the allegations that as Telecom Minister, Mr. Maran had got the exchange with high-speed Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) BSNL lines installed at his Chennai residence. It was also alleged that the lines were used by Sun TV to uplink programmes, causing a loss of Rs.1.8 crore.
