Commander Sandip Sinha (41), the officer commanding the ill-fated INS Sindhuratna submarine, has been recovering in the ICU of the Mumbai naval hospital, his father, Commander (retd) Pradeep Sinha, told The Hindu on Thursday evening.

“He is out of danger and is recovering. My son may come out of the ICU on Friday. His lungs have been affected by the smoke,” Commander Pradeep Sinha, who himself served in the Navy, said over phone from Gurgaon, Haryana. The retired commander said he had not been able to speak to his son, but was in regular contact with his daughter-in-law Neetu.

He also said that of the seven persons listed as injured in the fire, five had recovered from their injuries.
