Moderate quake hits China, 7 dead

At least seven people were killed, nine injured and one was missing in landslides triggered by a moderate earthquake in a mountainous region in southwestern China at the weekend, the government said on Monday.

The earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richter scale struck Guangling district in Guizhou province, 100 kilometres southwest of the capital Guiyang Sunday evening at 5:35 pm (8:05 pm IST).

The earthquake caused two separate landslides, burying and killing at least seven people. One person was still missing and nine others are in a local hospital, Xinhua news agency reported. No other details were immediately available.
