The Cuddalore district administration has taken up enumeration of crop damage under the impact of Cyclone Gaja, which made its landfall near Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district in the early hours of Friday.

Collector V. Anbuselvan said that banana and cashew crops cultivated in a few pockets in Panruti taluk were damaged due to strong winds. The damage is over a small area and the assessment will done and a report submitted to the State in the next two days, he added.

As many as 150 trees, which were uprooted in the rains in the district, were removed. As many as six thatched huts were fully damaged while another 42 houses were partially damaged. Compensation would be provided to the victims, he said.

Over 15,500 people who were accommodated in 101 cyclone shelters had left for their homes, he said.
