In the wake of impending drought, MYL has also decided to launch programmes to conserve water

The Muslim Youth League (MYL) will launch a year-long campaign, ‘La Convivencia’ ( The Coexistence), to promote communal harmony and religious cooperation in the State.

Addressing a news conference here on Thursday, MYL State president Sayyid Munavvarli Shihab Thangal and general secretary P.K. Firos said the organisation had been inspired by La Convivencia that claimed to have been in existence in Spain during the medieval period, which fostered religious diversity among Muslims, Christians and Jews.

In the wake of the impending drought in the State, the MYL, an affiliate of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), has decided to launch programmes to conserve water.

A ‘jala sammelanam’ (water convention) will be held at Thirunavaya in Malappuram district on March 22.

Steps will be taken to revive unused wells, ponds and other water sources at grama panchayat levels.

The MYL will organise ‘jala sabha’ at 5,000 centres from April 15 to 30. The campaign will highlight the importance of rainwater harvesting. “A ‘mazha yatra’ will be held from June 15 to 30,” they said.
