Vigilance inquiry a farce, says Thamarakshan

January 29, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:38 am IST - Kozhikode:

Revolutionary Socialist Party (Bolshevik) leader A.V. Thamarakshan has said that only an inquiry by a central agency can bring out the truth in the bar bribery case involving Finance Minister K.M. Mani.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, the veteran leader of the RSP(B), which is an ally of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), said that there was no point in going ahead with a Vigilance inquiry with Mr. Mani continuing as Minister.

Mr. Thamarakshan asked how an unbiased inquiry was possible when Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had given a clean chit to Mr. Mani without even a primary investigation. The ongoing investigation could only be a political farce, he said. Mr. Thamarakshan said an investigation should also be conducted into State ministers’ disproportionate wealth over the past several decades. He said there were several leaders in the State, including Cabinet Ministers, who had several crores of benami investments abroad. “Only a comprehensive inquiry by a credible agency can bring out the truth,” he said.

He said only a third front with a strong and uncorrupted leadership could save the State from further decline.
