Verification procedure to be streamlined

Initiative to computerise land records in village offices

Faced with public criticism, the district administration is streamlining the direct verification of individual land ownership details for the Computerisation of Land Records (CLR) project, which has been suspended. The plan is to make the verification procedure people-friendly and resume village-level verification camps after Onam.

Revenue officials said they would look into all complaints raised by the public. The main complaint was against the tiring queue system, which could be addressed by extending the time-frame for the final verification procedure, they said.

Though the district administration had plans to seek the support of various non-governmental organisations, it did not work out in many locations as expected. The authorities could not even rope in workers of the Kudumbasree and Literacy Mission for the first phase of the project.

A village officer said the CLR project was a major step for the proposed resurvey of land in the State.
