The district chapter of Kerala Police Officers’ Association (KPOA) and the Kerala Police Association came together to donate three LED television sets and eight cots to the Kuthiravattom Government Mental Health Centre, here, on Monday.
The association members collected nearly Rs.1 lakh for the initiative under their annual charity programmes. At a special function, City Police Commissioner A.V. George handed over the items to hospital superintendent E. Mukundan.
Shahul Hameed, State vice-president of KPOA, said the members of the police associations contributed Rs.50 each for mobilising the fund. “This was one of the several such charity programmes already undertaken by the police officials,” he added.

Along with the television sets, the two associations jointly sponsored the amount for availing cable connections. The sets would be fixed in ward number 5, 8 and 9. The cots too would be used in these three wards.
The association leaders said that they would be mobilising fund to help an indigent woman to construct a house. “Steps are in on to identify the required land. The woman is now being accommodated at an orphanage in Vellimadukunnu,” they added.
“On Thursday, we would be handing over Rs.5.38 lakh to the family members of a police man who died while he was in service,” said Mr. Hameed. “We have been making such voluntary contributions with the support of the both organisations since 2002,” he added.
