Wife and mother-in-law to be arrested

The police on Thursday exhumed the body of a 47-year-old Mokeri native on the suspicion that he was murdered with the support of his close family members at his house on July 8.

A post-mortem examination was conducted at the spot in the presence of Vadakara tahsildar K.K. Raveendran and scientific assistant K.S. Sruthilekha.

The police said the body of Meethal Sreedharan had been buried by the family under suspicious circumstances. It was suspected that he was strangulated at his house.

The case was registered on the basis of complaints from his neighbours, who found strange scars on his body. However, his wife and mother-in-law said the man had died of cardiac arrest. Police sources said a doctor from Kuttiyadi, who confirmed the death, had recommended a post-mortem examination after noticing the suspicious marks on the body.
