: The City police, on Friday, launched a special drive to check traffic rule violations and reckless riding by motorcylists in the wake of rising number of complaints. Sub- Inspectors from various city stations joined the drive, which will be continued for a few more days as per a directive of City Police Commissioner Uma Behera.
Police squads were stationed on almost all roads to screen riders on the first day of the drive.
Fine was imposed on several riders who did not produce vehicle documents or licence. Action was taken against speeding, failure to wear helmets and reckless riding.

“In several cases, we found that the riders did not have valid documents with them to prove the ownership of the vehicle or driving licence.
As per the latest rule, one has to produce the documents at the time of inspection,” said a Sub-Inspector who was found leading a squad on the Kozhikode Mini-Bypass road.
A few riders, who claimed that their documents were at home, were asked to bring it for verification, he said.

Campaign fund
Along with two-wheeler checking, the special flying squads formed as per a directive of the Election Commission also started on-road checking to track the illegal movement of election campaign fund or any other unpermitted articles in the name of the candidate. Several vehicles were inspected by senior police officers.
