Minister for Social Justice and Panchayats M.K. Muneer has urged people to intensify the cleaning drive and to take up preventive measures against the spread of contagious diseases.
Speaking at a meeting to review the situation in Kozhikode South Assembly constituency, of which he is the MLA, Mr. Muneer said necessary steps had to be taken though instances of contagious diseases were low compared to previous years. He said many wards were not keen on cleaning and preventive measures, and some had not spent the funds allotted.
A meeting of panchayat presidents and secretaries would be held to intensify ward-level activities, the Minister said. The cleaning programmes will be held under the aegis of the people’s representatives, health workers, health department officials, Kudumbasree members and NSS units.

It was decided at the meeting that preventive steps taken at the ward and constituency level would be analysed after 10 days.
