Snehasparsam fund collection on Saturday

The project also offers aid to mentally disabled people, promotes organ donation as well as undertakes various acts of charity.

The fund collection for the Snehasparsam project of the Kidney Patients’ Welfare Society under the district panchayat will be held on Saturday.

Snehasparsam volunteers will visit houses in the district to collect the contributions already promised by them. The Snehasparsam project is a ray of hope for the kidney patients in the city who are financially backward. Around 700 kidney patients in the district get Rs.2,000 each every month under the project to fund dialysis and other medications.

The project also offers aid to mentally disabled people, promotes organ donation as well as undertakes various acts of charity.

The Kidney Patients Welfare Society is headed by district panchayat president Kanathil Jameela and District Collector C.A. Latha. Two years since its inception, Snehasparsam has gained support of people from all walks of life. The Snehasparsam volunteers include people from political, social, cultural and other spheres.

First phase

The first stage of fund collection is being held on Saturday. Around 40,000 volunteers will be on field in Kozhikode Corporation, Koyilandy municipality, and 41 grama panchayats in Meladi, Panthalayani, Chelannur, Balusseri, Kunnamangalam, Koduvally, and Kozhikode blocks.

For the first time, Kozhikode Corporation is directly taking part in the fund collection for Snehasparsam. Mayor A.K. Premajam told reporters here on Friday that all the councillors, including the Mayor, would act as volunteers for the project.
