Six injured as KSRTC bus knocks them down

A Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus hit an electric post and caught fire on the busy Mavoor Road here on Friday afternoon.

The vehicle knocked down three bikes before hitting the electric post and crashing into a wall in front of a shopping complex.

Six persons were injured in the accident that occurred around 3.15 p.m. The condition of one of them, who is in an unconscious state and yet to be identified, is reported to be serious, the police said.

Four persons, including bus driver Vijayakumar, were admitted to the Baby Memorial Hospital.

A couple who sustained minor injuries was admitted to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital.

Personnel attached to the Department of Fire and Rescue Services doused the flames after a 30-minute operation.

Incidentally, there were only four passengers in the KSRTC’s Kozhikode-Malappuram Town-Town bus.

Driver loes control

Eyewitnesses said the driver lost control of the bus while negotiating a curve when the vehicle was coming out of the newly constructed bus station.

The diesel tank of the bus ruptured after the vehicle hit the divider on the road. The bus moved to the next lane and knocked down three motorcyclists. A motorcycle was stuck under the bus.

Traffic was disrupted for more than an hour on Mavoor Road. Normal traffic was restored by evening.
