The Alliance of National SC/ST Organisations has sought implementation of reservation based on economic status to stop the creamy layer from the community getting its benefits.
Ramadas Vengeri, the president of the organisation, told the media here on Tuesday that a minority among the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes were usurping all the benefits of reservation, depriving the large majority of their rights.
The government should be ready to implement reservation based on economic status to weed out such people, he said.

Mr. Ramadas demanded that the State government waive loans taken by those from the Scheduled Caste community for basic needs such as construction or renovation of their houses. He said many such below the poverty line families were on the verge of being expelled from their dwellings as they had taken the loan submitting their land as collateral.
Mr. Ramadas said the hundreds of crores of rupees of Central funds that lapses every year due to various reasons could be diverted to help such people.
The organisation would submit a representation to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on August 31 demanding that the Commission for SCs and STs hold sittings in the district to collect a data bank on those from the community who had taken loans from banks and other finance institutions.
