‘Save Kozhikode’ campaign: BJP launches hunger strike

July 08, 2014 12:06 pm | Updated 12:06 pm IST - Kozhikode:

BJP State president V. Muraleedharan has alleged that the ruling CPI (M) is hand in glove with the opposition Congress- led United Democratic Front in corruption at the Kozhikode Corporation.

He was inaugurating a mass hunger strike led by the BJP district president P. Reghunath as part of the party’s ‘Save Kozhikode’ campaign at Muthalakulam ground here on Monday. He said that the only objective of the ruling and the opposition parties was to get hold of public assets. The governance of the civic body functioned like a cooperative society, Mr. Muraleedharan alleged.

People who opposed the implementation of the Madhav Gadgil committee report on Western Ghats tried to protect the interest of 4,000 quarries operating in the region. Now an attempt had been made to encroach the coastal areas of the State, the BJP leader said.

BJP State secretary V. V. Rajan, Azhimathi Virudha Campaign Committee chairperson K. Anandakanakam, and general convener K P Vijayakumar and others also spoke.
